Shadow Heir is the epic conclusion to the Eugenie Markham series. I have long awaited this installment, but I was in a way disappointed with several aspects of the book. As always, Richelle Mead's writing sucks the reader in from sentence one. Readers will have no problem following the story, and will become engaged in the superb imagery of the Otherworld. The Oak King, Dorian, is by far my favorite character. (I think I like him better than Eugenie!) His and Eugenie's relationship throughout not only this novel but the series as well, is probably one of the most alluring aspects. Dorian always has some quip or snarky remark, making him the comic relief of this sometimes dark story.
Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake: Young Adult
5 Hoots: Lydia
Blake has definitely written one of the finest young adult books in the paranormal genre for this year.
The protagonist has a solid task, understood and shared, in some respects, by his mother. A task handed down to him as a paternal legacy. Cas also has his own task; a task that consumes his heart and being. Yet, this task requires more training, more experience, and a trip to the most ghost-haunted city in the United States. Blake has developed a primary character who not only endears himself to readers, but also allows them to connect on a truly emotional level.
Deadly Little Lies by Jeanne Adams:Romantic Suspense 4 Hoots: Michelle
Deadly Little Lies by Jeanne Adams is full of suspense and excitement! Dav has been in a world of trouble with some bad people after helping Carrie decipher an art scandal. While spending near all of his time with her throughout the investigation he has fallen completely in love with her. Now that he finds himself safe and out of harm’s way, he finally gets the courage to ask her out. What he does not know, is that there is someone far more dangerous than any of his past foes waiting in the shadows for one weak moment and it seems Carrie is that moment.
Wow! Harlem hit the nail with this book, it is completely awesome! The story line and character build up will have you stepping right into the characters shoes and fantasizing about being right in their situation. Their personalities just click and their back stories make the whole situation even better. The climax is nail biting, but the ending is what did it for me.
